A sessions court in Kerala on Tuesday ( May 13) sentenced Kedal Jinson Raja to life imprisonment who has been convicted for the murder of his family members.

Raja, who was a medical graduate is convicted of killing his father, mother, sister and a family relative. The victims were hacked and three of the bodies were set on fire. One body was discovered wrapped in bedsheets inside the home. The case attracted public interest when Raja claimed that he did the deed as a part of his experiments on 'astral projection'. Reportedly, a medical board has certified him as medically sound and the trial continued.

The accused was convicted of offences under Section 302(murder), 201(causing disappearance of evidence) and 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substances) of IPC yesterday.

In the sentence pronounced today, the Additional Sessions Judge, Trivandrum sentenced him to life imprisonment for each of the 4 murders. The life sentences will run concurrently. For the offence under Section 201 of IPC, he is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of one year. For the offence under Section 436, the accused is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of seven years. The sentence for offences under Section 201 and 436 will run concurrently and the life imprisonment will commence after the term imprisonments are over.
