A three-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court comprising of Justices Arijit Banerjee, Sabyasachi Bhattacharya and Rajarshi Bharadwaj has issued contempt rule against eight individuals, including TMC leader Kunal Ghosh for allegedly heckling lawyers outside a courtroom over discontent regarding a development in the recruitment scam case.
Earlier, the Chief Justice had constituted a three-judge bench to take up a suo moto case into the incident which led to commotion outside a courtroom at the High Court premises, during court hours.
The bench, in its earlier hearing, had directed the commissioner of police, to put on record the CCTV footage from the court corridors where the commotion had occurred.
In issuing notice against the aforesaid parties, the court noted:
By our order dated May 2, 2025, we had recorded that prima facie we are satisfied of commission of criminal contempt by the alleged contemnors. We had granted liberty to the alleged contemnors to file their replies within a fortnight from the date of receipt of notice. Today all the alleged contemnors are represented through learned Advocates. None of them has filed any affidavit. The allegations against them remain uncontroverted. There will be Rules against the alleged contemnors. The Rules are made returnable on June 16, 2025 at 12.30 p.m
